Benefit Concert for Ukraine: Music as a Unifier and Support in Difficult Times
The war in Ukraine affects us all, and many feel the need to do something to alleviate the suffering. In Nuenen the idea arose to organize a benefit concert to raise money for the victims who are currently enduring such hardship. A wonderful initiative in which I participated with full conviction.
With my background in Georgia I feel a deep connection to the Ukrainian people. It was therefore an honor for me to contribute as a violinist to this special afternoon. Together with my colleague, pianist Olga van Pennen, and singer Odillia Carmen Chirica, we presented a varied program. The Ukrainian national anthem and other moving pieces resounded in the hall and visibly touched the audience.
An Afternoon of Solidarity
The atmosphere during the benefit concert was steeped in solidarity and emotion. Everyone, from performers to organizers, volunteered their efforts. The audience, including Marij and Rob Veth, spoke about the deep impression the afternoon made on them. "The solidarity, the inhumanity of the war, and our own concerns are reasons to be here," they said. Desiree van Maasakkers emphasized how unifying the afternoon was: "It stays with you. It is frightening, but also hopeful."
Also remarkable were the reactions of Dion Hosli and his wife. They had planned to stay for only an hour, but the music kept them captivated until the end. As they were putting on their coats to leave, they realized how special the afternoon had been and decided to stay a little longer.
A Wonderful Result
The power of music and togetherness was evident not only in the atmosphere but also in the outcome. The benefit concert raised no less than €9,200. This amount will be used to support the Ukrainian people in these difficult times.
It was an unforgettable afternoon in which music, compassion and solidarity came together. The concert showed how powerful our collective efforts can be in making a difference.
